i have a patch growing on a piece of LR, how do i get rid of it?

Could be flow ,stocking , source ,age. More info needed from size , age , equipment , amount of LR and LS , stock?
You could add as much info in your profile to shorten response time.
If i must guess i would say source and flow.

forgot to add the tank is 6 months old

If all you have is 2 koralia # 3 's then your lacking flow.Alot.MB 4 #4 or 2 # 4 and use the #3's for spot flow behind the rock.
