I just took this pump off line froom my closed loop and it severely needs cleaning. Do I have to take off the black housing to clean it?

We just rebuilt our 4200SEQ12 which is effectively the same pump with Saltwater seals. You can loosen the bolts around the head from the back without detaching the motor. Once the head is off, spin the impeller off. You may need to lock the shaft in order to get the impeller to release. Once threaded off, you should be good to go. DO NOT touch the seal surfaces with anything abrasive.

Not really sure. A lot of it depends on your system. I know people that do 6-month and/or yearly maintenance of their pumps where they tear everything down and soak the heads in vinegar.
