When I first started my tank nearly a year ago, I have plenty of these. Now I do not seem to see harldy any. Any reasons why they may have disappeared?
check at night, do you feed them, are you running a filter sock.
phyto, zooplankton,DTs all should help. also who's in the tank, someone may be eating them.
Will running a filter sock decrease there population
i dunno but i had a isopod population that was out of control, they were literally all over the place and big guys too, i added a filter sock about 4 weeks ago and have seen a drastic reduction in their numbers, amphipods aren't free swimming i don't believe, so it prolly wouldn't have the same effect.

I sometimes feed them brine shrimp eggs. If you have some macro in the fuge that touches the water surface you can put in a few dashes of eggs. The eggs float. Thats why its important to have macro that breaks the surface. The eggs gravitate to the macro on the surface and you can watch the pods come out and eat them up. I have noticed population increases after feeding them.
