Well I got my candy cane when my alk test kit was so wrong, with a true value of 4.5 dkh.

Now at 9dkh the head are a lot more fluffyier but they are detaching from the skeleton. But I have now 3 heads in the sand that are still extending polyps at night so they are still alive, but they have no skeleton.

Any chance they will grow a new base?

Get them off the sand. The sand will "burn" them. Its like rubbing sandpaper on your arm. Good luck.

I had a candy cane loose a head due to poor acclimation from cold water. The head also mostly died, leaving only a pin head size alive and detached from the skeleton. I used a small amount of glue and attached it to a piece of live rock. The head has since grown back to the old normal size and has formed a new skeleton.

It's worth trying the glue method, but ejected polyps typically don't survive.... but hey, if you could get rid of that green water maybe anythings possible ;)
