Is it cloudy or clear, and is it in the whole eye or just one small part?

If it's in one part and cloudy it sounds like a cataract, but I don't know if fish can get them.

Its not a cataract. Its a common problem known as 'pop eye'. It is caused by damage / scratch to the eye - or more seriuosly, a bacterial infection. The condition is always the symptom of something else. Usually the fish will recover on its own. Keep you water quality good a feed regularly. If the cause is a bacterial infection you may want to consider quarantine if there is no improvement.
There is plenty written about it. Check out RC threads and wetwebmedia for more info
