how much and how often should I give my 75 gallon total water volume tank a water change to achieve perfect water parameters?

Depends:D

Probably not what you wanted to hear... But perfect for a softie tank and perfect fro a BB full blown SPS tank are worlds apart. it also depends on the equipment and where your parameters are at.

It depends what you want to do. I think most people do roughly 20% a month some do 10% a week some do more some do less. Get a good routine that works for you and stick with it. I do a 5gal water change a week on a 90 gal seemed to work for me and i could do it in 10 minutes no problem so it was not time consuming and really no mess to clean up.

10% per week here.

I do close to 10% weekly (10g for a 120g tank). Works great at helping to keep my tank running good IMO. I also clean the skimmer at the same time so at the very least it gets cleaned out once a week.

On my fairly heavily stocked 75 with a 30 gallon sump. (( SPS, and a Haddoni carpet and 5 good sized fish )) I do 5 gallons a week (( sometime twice a week if I am feeling up to it )). The main reason I do 5 gallons is because I use old salt buckets, just easiest for me. Find that doing something that is easy goes long way towards keeping up with your water changes.

would it be bad to do a 20 % water change a week for my 90 gallon, i do a 10 percent

Why?

But, I don't think it would be bad at all. I've been laid up for a while ( knee scope ) and haven't been able to do water changes for about 2 weeks now. When I feel up to it I am going to do bigger ones.

Remember a 75 gal or 90 gal or what ever it is not actually that amount. I have a 75 and I do a 10 gallon change anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks. But with sand a LR in my tank I probably only have 70 gallons so a 10 gallon change is a 14 to 15% water change. So usually a 10% change is a little more if you are basing it upon your stated tank size and not actual water volume.

i do a water change about every three months, usually i just top off, my refugium keeps all the params low because of macro algae nutrient export, i dont do water changes because im lazy, and my reef THRIVES, so id say it depends on personal preference

I also do 5 gallon water changes every week (58g tank) in 5 gallon salt buckets due to how convenient it is.

For my 65g I do 10g per week. I have a 35g refug but with the LR and whatnot the total is probably 65g in total water volume. So, that's 40g per month or 61% change out per month.

Regular and consistent water chang outs are the single greatest thing you can do for the health of your tank. Think of it as the great equalizer where most problems that a tank has are usually water related!
