Just plain old off the shelf timers on my tank. They are the kind that can fit two per outlet I think GE is the brand. They work fine. We have a coral life electronic timer at the Zoo tank and have had problems with it. We use that one for dosing tho. The lights are on Ice cap timers.

i have heard of people having problems with those 'off the shelf' timers when using them with metal halide ballasts.

I had one of them on my freshwater tank a couple of years ago. It worked fine for what I used it for.

You are right my bad. Make sure the timer you buy can handle the amperage of your lights.
