I am seting up a 210 AGA. I have the megaflow kits but have been thinking about making durso standpipes instead. Is one better than the other? Get more flow than the other? The megaflows seem kinda flimsy to me.

The AGA megafow kit is a durso standpipe

Yes, the mega flow kit is a durso style standpipe, but as jetdrvr stated they are a bit flimsy.

Jet, you probably won't gain anything from making your own durso from PVC. But if want something a little more sturdy they are very easy to make.

The AGA durso uses schedule 20 PVC. It is a thinner wall therefore actually carries more water! Most AGA durso are not in a place someone will hang laundry from so they are way strong enough :-)

I made my own out of 1.25 PVC to a 1" bulkhead drain handles all my flow and only cost about ten bucks for both drains. I also made my own return lines and with loc-line fittings i put out $40 bucks total for both overflows drain's and both return's. Its a little work but far less than the AGA kits.

I already have the AGA kits so I guess I will just use those. I just thought I would check to see if I would gain anythign from making my own.

Thanks

The AGAs are nice for the ease of adjustment, you can play around to see what works best with little trouble. Building your own from thin wall PVC costs a fraction though. Little difference in the operation from what I see...

I agree 90 AGA with megaflow kit, I figured, if it aint broke, dont fix it. It works fine for me, plus its adjustable if needed

Not trying to argue but did you get 4 bulkheads and a loc-line equivilant to the AGA set up? When I set up my tank I found it cheaper with the BH and the loc-line then if I tried to duplicate it seperately.

asm481,

I did get them cheaper from my LFS. But you had a point for the bulkheads, they cost me $16 for two one inch and two three quarter inch. But i did get a good deal on the bulkheads.
