what is firmware?

Can someone tell what firmware is/means?

I got a RK2 almost 2 years ago. When I picked it up, the dealer hooked it up to his computer and did something. Just wanted to know if I should be doing this from time to time, or anything else I should be doing?

Firmware is kind of like software. It's code that you load onto a micro processor like what's in the RK2. You don't NEED to unless you wish to take advantage of new features that are released.

I have an rk2 where the temps last number keeps fluctuating from one number to another . so I was thinking that I should update it .

Yes, that was on the old site and as we're updating the new site that should be added this week.
