My 2 green BTA's have shrunk up and the tenticals are now short little balls. they look like little mounds of green balls every since i installed my new bulbs. they are the same 14k as the old ones. is this normal? the mother is about 5" across normally and now maby 1 1/2"

might be light shock if you replaced really old lights with new ones and didn't adjust the photo period it could take a bit to acclimate.

How long have they been shrunk up?

did they shrink up as soon as you switched bulbs?

Any other changes? water change?

I should have put this in the original post I did a complete tear down of the tank that same weekend and a 50% water change. been having algea problems. so I took out the DBS and replaced it with a shallow one.

so your saying its been constantly shrunk 2 weeks strait right?

any white noodles near the mouth area? can you get a pic?

My Obta is very sensative and has stayed shrunk 6 days in a row a few times. I thought it was a goner each time.
They are REALLY resilliant creatures.

Get your parms stable. good or not so good, just try to keep them stable. dont make anymore big changes. they dont care about algea ;)

If you really think its light, it may be a good idea to get 3 sheets on window screen, put em on top of the tank, and remove a screen every few days. Im not sure if that would help now or not, but it mmay give it a little recovery time.

thanks!
Can you discribe these noodles you are talking about ? the small BTA i have has developed these white stripes running along the side of its mouth they are perfictly strait and spaced evenly all the way around the mouth and are shinny when you shine a light on it.

no, those are called striations i think. these would be more like speggetti noodles coming out of the inside of its mouth. they are real curly too. That would be a bad sign...
