I have a 3.5 inch peacock mantis that was in my 12 gal nano for a week along with a 1.25 inch wennerae and didn't really want to come out of his pvc home that I made for him. So I put a divider in my 75 FOWLR tank with a nylon screen on the divider so I wouldnt lose the fish i already have in the tank. Now he seems more at home in this setup. Can anyone tell me why he seems to be happier in this setup: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii111/rlf_racing/101_0238.jpg

Compared to this setup?

larger home, no strange mantis in the tank with it. IMO

No the little smasher is in their with it and their weren't any problems with them being together. This home is only temporary until I can get a 40+ gal tank for them.

Anybody else think this is a bad idea? Seems to me it's asking for trouble with eventual injury or death on the horizon. Even if they survived all of one week together you're not out of the woods. And even if it is possible for them to "get along", IMO chances are one will own the tank and the other will hide. Not much of a life for the intimidated skrimp.

yeah, ive been wanting to try to significantly different sized stomatopods in one large tank, assuming they each had a nice tight fitting and safe burrow/cavity where they can't kill each other after a molt. But i know there is a lot of risk associated with it... if it works out please let us know! The intimidation factor and reclusiveness of the wenny would be what I would worry about..

This setup is only temporary. I was having to many large temp fluctuations in my 12 gal nano. During the day temp would get down to 72 and at night it would go up to almost 80. In my 75 gal tank temp would only change maybe a degree or two at the most. Yes I would like to have them both in thier own tanks, but at this time they are going to have to be together. I don't see any forseeable problems with them in the same tank together. I really don't think a 1 inch mantis could really take on a 3.5 mantis. Or at least I hope. Dr. Roy if you read this post I would like to get your opinion on this matter as well.
