White spots - 1/4"

We have developed a white spot syndrome. I have seen snail eggs before and know it is not that. Very small and in groupings. They come right off when the acrylic is cleaned, but it seems like more each week. The tank is about 6 years old and water is with in acceptable ranges. Any ideas?
