hi everyone, i just got to college, and i couldnt bring my 25 gallon tank i had at home to the dorm, so im looking to purchase a new one while my parents take care of the old one. it needs to be smaller as i dont have much room in this dorm. i was looking at this tank 3 gallon tank (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3730+15493&pcatid=15493) Would i be able to keep any fish or shrimp etc in that tank or just corals? If i cant what would be the size i would need to keep a fish or something in it? I looked around a lot and i couldnt find that good of a selection on small tanks. Anyone know a good spot to find mini fish tanks? thank you in advanced

Ostridge,

Can you put a BC8 on your desk? The dimensions are L 13 x W 14.6 x H 12.4

Its the Oceanic Bio-Cube.

Here is the link for the tank (http://www.oceanicsystems.com/products/biocube.php)

and here is the link it it on Dr f&s (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=18538&Nty=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=All&N=2004&Ntt=oceaic&Np=1)

You can find probably find a better deal else where but its useful for the description.

I'm not sure what is good for this tank as I have the 14g version but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

8 gallon... you could probably have some sort of goby and a clown (excluding some species of clown, such as maroon, tomato)

This website will likely be helpful for you... They list recommended tank sizes for many fish.

(back a page http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pcatid=15 )

With the BC lights you can keep most LPS, softies... I wouldn't try any clams or SPS, but I think you'll be alright with that.

You could also look into simply buying a glass tank and then buying components for it.... or... buying a tank that is not an all in one so that you can use your existing equipment, what type of lights are on your 25?

thank you all for responding..

for Rosseau,

i cant use the lighting from the 25 gallon because i still have fish and corals etc in that tank at home. I would have to buy a completly new tank, and setup. I was looking at the 8 gallon tank and its quite expensive for me being on my own now. Would 1 fish be good in a 3 gallon tank with some life rock and corals? I looked at the website and didnt see any fish that could even live in the 8 gallon tank, so is it ok to put them in a smaller tank than it says? I dont wanna make it so the fish has no where to go and feels in jail, but i would like a fish

edit: sorry just saw now that they can live in 8 gallon tanks
