Hello all, I have a 20L that I custom built a fuge/sump area in the back of, and now I'm getting a little cyano due to not enough flow. I'm not a huge fan of big power heads hanging in the tank, but I have a powersweep (that's not sweeping) right now and a MJ1200. It seems a bit much for my minimal softies, a couple of zoas and shrooms. Anyone have any ideas for me as far as different flow? I was going to put my K1's in there but their trashed from being on a wave maker and just make funny noises now.

really? ok. While I like the koralias for broad spectrum flow, I don't like how much tank room they take up.. any other options?

I run 2 Korialla #1's in my 20Long.

2 Koralia #1's sounds about right. I run mine with an AC110 and a Koralia 1 and that seems just about right.

Is this tanks newley set up? If so give it some time. Cyano and or any algae is due to nutrients in the water. How often are you feeding? How much? It might be as simple as cutting down on feedings.

it would be that simple, unfortunately I have very small clowns, and i'd like them to get a little bigger before I cut down on feedings. I try to keep it light, but I feed 2-3 times a day... I know that's the cause, I was just trying to get some more flow so it wouldn't have a chance to settle.. but maybe it's counter productive and I should just settle w/ what I got and do more water changes or something.

The easy fix is to feed 1x per day not 3. Water changes will help but you will just keep adding nutrients every time you feed. Do you have a skimmer? If so maybe skim wetter.

yeah, I have a Octo 100F on it, way overkill. I guess I could skim wetter... and feed 1 or 2 times instead of 3. I suppose the little guys don't need to grow up too fast!

Do you use tap water? That could be your problem too. I use tap water and was having cyano issues for a while as well. I would try feeding 1x per day for a while and see if it helps. Good luck.

One other thing that could be an issue is what your feeding. Some foods especially frozen foods have phosphates in them which can be the problem as well.
