I really don't know what forum this question would be most appropriate, so I'm posting it here.

I picked up a 90 from the local craigslist and got a good price on it but somewhere from his house to mine I managed to chip the corner of the tank.

I'm not concerned with the way it looks. I just want to know if anyone has suggestions on how to best repair it or is it a lost cause and I should just face the music that the tank is unusable.

Ideas that I had were to just add a piece of angle iron type stuff siliconed to the corner, or silicone glass over the chip to give the corner a little more strength.

If I can use the tank with a little patch work. I'll let it sit outside the house for a good week before I decide it's safe enough for inside.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on a "safe" fix? Any help is much appreciated!

You could try asking in the DIY forum. Is any of the original silicone seal exposed? I can't tell from the photo.

Thanks for the response and the suggestion for the DIY forum. None of the original silicone is exposed. I talked to the LFS who's opinion I trust. He thought that I didn't have anything to worry about and just to coat the chip with some new silicone.

i had a 240g FW tank that had two chips like that, i used it like that for 3 years before i moved and the new home owner bought the tank form me and its still up and running, fill the tank out side in the yard let it sit for a day or two and if nothing happends i would use it.. just my 2 cents:D

I have an old, old, old 110g tank that has multiple chips on the corners like that. It was that way when a friend of the family gave it to me. Fifteen years later, it still hasn't leaked a drop.
