I starting using black diamond activated carbon and when I put it in my sump there was a black cloud that came from the carbon.

Yes rinse it. It helps get rid of the dust cloud you saw.

Rinse it for about 30 seconds while you swish it around.
Rinse it in RO/di water. You don't want to use the carbon to clean the rinse water :lol:

if your running it in a phosban reactor, pump water from the tank through it and into a bucket for a few seconds, clears very quickly.
