If I have 2 A. ocellaris is my 20 gallon tank, how many Chromis viridis can I keep along with them? I want a school of Chromis, but not at the expense of comfort for my clowns.

I have a skimmer, and I don't mind doing water changes either, so water quality isn't really a thing. It's more the happiness of my fish that I'm worried about.

a school of 4 or five would be nice--but they still have the tendancy to pick on each other..Nice to watch the school though
They won't bother the clown and visa versa

So 5 Chromis (viridis) and 2 clowns in a 20 gallon wouldn't be stressful to them?

Just making sure. I don't want them all dropping dead because they're running out of room to live.

I have a 29g. I have 2 ocellaris (tank raised) and 2 chromis in my 29. I'm not sure how many you can actually fit without over doing the bio load. I have a total of 5 fish...the 5th is a dottyback.

I'm thinking with a 20g, you already have 2 clowns. 5 or 6 chromis may be a bit too many. Hopefully, someone with more experience can chime in.

What I can tell you is that my clowns and chromis do not bother each other at all.

i would probably go with 3 chromis... seems like the more you have in the tank, they disappear...

how much live rock do you have in your tank?

clowns and chomis get along together--but as it has been said the chromis tend to pick on each other whether 3 of them are together or 5. Therefore its a matter of aesthetics---some feel 5 looks better as a school--others 3

another school of three that would work is cardinals

I have 20 pounds of live rock, along with 20 (probably more like 19) pounds of live sand.

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't gotten an answer yet. So, do you guys think 2 A. occelaris, 3 Chromis, and a Diamond goby would be to much for a 20 gallon? I've got 20 pounds of rock, 20 pounds of sand, and a CPR bakpak skimmer. Right now, I'm thinking I should just stick with 3 Chromis, but if you guys say that the 6 fish can be happy in my 20, I'll go for it.

Is the 3 because of space, or bioload?

Also, can if 3 fish are the absolute max, can I still add coral?

Thanks.

nine times out of 10 it is a space issue. IMO three chromies seem to ge the ideal number for these--4 or 5 they will start singling out the weaker and pecking it to death.

I can't answer for Sam he might have something else in mind;)

One of the moderators, or Team RC guys mentioned something about goby's in a thread a few days ago.

I really can't answer on the other fish, or compatibility issues. I'm not that experienced. But, it was stated that as far as bio-load goes, goby's, or most goby's are close to 0 bio-load on a tank.

I got two ocellaris and two chromies in a 10g. they look happy. and swim around everywhere. but they're small though. and with 20lbs of lr, I don't even use any filtering device.
