Deltec AP701 set-up. Am going insane! Please help

Hi. I am just setting up my new AP701. I can't figure out how the feed pipe fittings place together. Do they need to be 'welded'. When I follow the diagram they are not held together. I think I have tried every conceivable configuration with no joy. Please help.
