View Full Version : New sump STUCK!

I picked up the 10 gallon sump and installed some baffles in it. I went to drop it into a standard 25 gallon AGA stand and it DOESN'T FIT :eek2: . The sump is very snug but I am able to get it about halfway down the stand. As soon as the plastic molding on top of the sump hits the top of the stand it gets stuck. I am using a and a standard 20 x 10 x 12 tank. Is anyone else running this setup? Anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this problem? I guess I can take the top molding off of the sump, but I think if I did that I may break it when trying to squeeze the sump down the stand.

Thanks,

Brian

I am using a 55 gallon stand and a 10 gallon still doesnt fit, AGA sucks, so you might want to create a $100 custom sump or deal with a 5 gallon which I use and is terrible.

Wow, that does suck... Did you try to remove the top molding? I really DO NOT want to drop down to a 5 gallon sump.. I thought 10 was too small..

If you are talking about the black 55G stand then we have the same stand. This was by far the worst choice that i have ever made since i got in this hobby. I have a wet/dry sump on the right side and a plastic container on the left side as my refugium.
Ill post some pics if that helps.

You can get a plastic container from Target for about 8$, its better than dropping down to 5 gallon tank.

Well im glad I wasnt the only one with these issues.. I have thought about going the plastic tub route.. Its just frustrating that I now have a 10 gallon sump all baffled and ready to go and now I cant use it.. Oh well, you do what you gotta do..

Also Beagle, im not sure what you mean by standing it on end?

Modify the stand and AGA doesnt suck. Be more careful when planning

What mod can be done with a tank full of water sitting on the stand?

A 10 gallon does fit, but you must remove the center braces, so unless you know everything you are doing like frags75, you have to break down your tank and then remove the braces. It can be done without moving the tank which someone did in another thread. I did a cheap setup of having the overflow go down into a trash can that holds about 15 gallons, and it fills and drains to the 5 gallon fuge and is returned to the main display. So be creative if you have to deal with the AGA.

Do you have a link to the other thread?

I do not remember the link, but I think it was under the DIY forum; it is almost like a sawhorse you need to create to hold the weight as you cut the center braces.

different sizes but i fit a 5gal aga into a 10gal aga stand. i had to notch out the back of the stand to slide it in from the rear. its a tight fit but i managed to fit it. ill look for the pics and post them so you can see what im talking about.
