My reagent #2 is running out, it is some unknown dry chemical, rather than pay $45.00 for a small refill container of this chemical I was wondering if anyone knows what it is so I could procure it less expensively.

I'm not familiar with that kit. Sorry.

OK thanks anyway, hopefully someone out there knows the answer, it is a shame to pay $45.00 for a few grams of chemical which is likely worth pennies.
$45 is almost the cost of the entire DD Merck kit.
You may want to check out the Hach PO-19 kit (www.hach.com). While the initial cost is higher ($76), the replacement powder reagents are $19.

I am also using this kit and just recieved the same sticker shock. I would like to change to a different test kit. What is the most accurate phosphate test kit on the market. I think this kit is overated and over priced...

For hobbyist test kits, I've used the Salifert and the Hach. They both seem to be okay, although getting a number is easier with the Hach due to the color wheel.
