I have 150's over my 30" deep and can have any coral I want. SPS usually have to be near the top though. That being said, I am in the process of upgrading to 250W's so I can put my SPS in more areas.

could i keep clams in the sand bed with the 150? how about anemone with the 150 if it were in the sand?

I would go w/ the 250 w/ 24deep. 150 would be ok. But you will find yourself in upgrade down the road if SPS is in the picture.

Clam in the sand; probably not. Anenome in the sand; probably, but it will go wherever it wants to anyway.

hmmm... could i keep the sps up high and still be ok for clams or nems down low with the 150? i want everyone to be happy but i dont want everything to outgrow the tank too fast

A rose BTA is usually a good choice. But keep in mind that most nems do not like sand; they will go for rock (they will walk to where they want to be).

I would go with 250's if I were you. Your tank height is right on the border between the two. If you want a clam down low I wouldn't do the 150. My tank is 18 inches tall and I use 150's. My roommates is 24 inches high and he has 250's. And he is finding himself moving the clams higher up...

Not to hijack your thread, but I'm about to put a 175w 10k MH over a 20 gallon long. But I'm also feeling somewhat inspired to do a 250w over the top so I can potentially raise the lamp a little higher and get more even coverage. Anyone ever heard anything as crazy as puting a 250w MH over a 20 gallon long?

Are you going with one or two 150watt MH fixtures?

And if you are going to go with 2 MH fixtures, are the MH bulbs going to have individual reflectors or it it going to be an all in one fixture?
