I recently purchased a featherduster which was perched upright in my 12G Nanocube. It seems that the opening of his "tube" closed and I have not seen him pop out. Yet he is still standing upright. DOes this seem normal? Any input welcome.

Don't worry about it too much.....it will come out when it gets ready to. I have a few of them and they sometime will stay closed for hours and even days.

yeah, they like food. the big ones may starve over a year's length.

Here is an example: Moving the rocks around all the time might squish the lil guy. Cant be good for the FD's.

It is possible that it has left the tube!

That seems to be what has happened. I looked back into the tank to remove the crown, but it wasn't there. Then suddenly, I saw his crown protrude out of the sand (as if out of his tube). ?!?! Now I am not sure as to whether the tube is empty and should be removed or if I should remove the crown that appears to be embedded in the sand.

That may not be a good sign. I think it's one of the ways they try to get out of a bad situation.

Check your tank parameters, the crown will grow back if everything is ok, do a water change.

Is the actual worm out of the tube or is it JUST the crown?

I crown is still popping in and out of the sand as if it were in its tube. The tube/worm is sitting to its left about 2 inches away
