View Full Version : Reproducing Carpet Anemones

I've been trying to do some research on this, but I run into conflicting reports.
Has anyone successfully reproduced any of the carpet anemones? Some of the stuff I'm reading says they'll split like BTAs or that they can be manually split, but everyone seems to say different things.
What're your experiences? With what species?

If you search relatively far back in this forum there's someone who attempted to cut their carpet in half. I don't remember for sure, but I think both halves died.

Yeah, both halves of that Merten's anemone died. From what I've read, Haddoni is thought to only reproduce sexually. I believe this is thought to be the case for Merten's and gigantea too.

Both halves did die, but if i recall correctly, Phil believed that the death of one, if not both, halves may have been avoidable had he done things differently.
However, still not a recommended method of trying to propagate these guys just yet.

This occurred a long long time ago, at least 14 years ago....
I had a haddoni (( at least I believe it was, didn't know a whole lot back then )) that was starting to bud, it was clearly a bud, and not some sort of damage. However, I ended up losing it before it could finish.
For about 8 months I had two Haddonis in the same tank and never noticed anything. Currently they are in different tanks now, but in the near future I may move them back together.

Interesting. I ran into some comments about that thread, but I couldn't find the original.
I guess I won't be getting a carpet anemone then, I think they're beautiful but a lot of the appeal to me is being able to reproduce them, which is why I like BTAs so much.
