Tonga advice

I recently purchased a 1-1/2 inch purple tonga mushroom. I noticed that it was gaping a little bit around the mouth and assumed that it was splitting -- a behavior I have seen many times before with giant hairy mushroom.

I recently look and it appears that rather than spliting, it is disintergrating.

Any thoughts?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what is the best placement for these guys? I LOVE purple tongas but can never get them to grow :( Hopefully this derailing helps you out too richw, then I won't feel so bad for stealing your thread :)

i got green tongas half way up in a 40 breeder under 250MH.. under all kind of different bulbs..but i think they liked the 20k best..
