***? Am I an idiot. I dont know what to do. I have the 29 gallon biocube. I changed out the stock return pump for a maxijet 1200. It has the CPR Aquatics cr3 skimmer and a KORALIA nano pump for circulation. Last night it was 70 degrees in my house all night, but when I woke up, my tanks temp was 80.5. The day lights were off all night, only the moonlights were on. During the day it gets upto 83 degrees. Where did Oceanic test there tanks? In a freezer? I dont want to shell out $3-4 hundred dollars for a chiller. I've ordered these:

that i'm going to put into the rear lid. But why do I have to do all this for a SUPPOSEDLY all in one system? I love the way the tank looks, but I could've spent $40 at walmart and gottem a fryer and had pretty much the same thing. Is the answer to everything "Have a fan blowing on it"? Sorry for the rant, but I'm about ready to throw a brick threw the tank and just go dive when I want to see some fish.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

have you checked you heater and make sure its still correct?? it took me forever to get my heater adjusted right so my tank sits at 79 all the time...so the heater says its set at 76 degrees but really its at 79...

I have the same bio cube. I am still running stock pumps, but I did remove the hood. I have the eggcrate stuff on top to keep the fish from jumping out and put above it a 130w PC light fixture.

My temp goes up and down a bit to, but I just have a small fan attached to a desk next to it and I just turn it on when the temp rises too high. Takes the temp down pretty fast as all the heat is not stuck under a hood.

I hear the up and down is bad for corals, but my nem and fish seem okay. Doesn't look as nice as it does with the hood on it, but seems a bit easier to control.

I have the same tank with stock pumps as well and I kept the hood. I even upgraded the light from stock to the 144w pc upgrade thru nano-tuners.

As for heat issues, I actually need to run a heater in mine. I keep my room temp at 70. During the day, my tank hits approx 80.3 and once the lights go out, it reeds between 78.6 - 79.4.

I am in PA too, and my house goes up and down in the room. Hubby turns the darn thing down low at night to save on money and when we have anything below 20 here my tank works hard to stay at 78 even with the lights. But all through the summer and on warmer days my temp is usually above the green (82-84) and I have to put the fan on.

Wonder what we are doing wrong.

I'm sure it's nothing that anyone person is doing wrong or different. It's probably more a difference of the rooms that the tanks are in and possibly the tanks themselves?

My tank is in my basement...finished basement. The basement is heated/air conditioned with central air/heat. My wife keeps the heat and A/C both set to 70 during their respective seasons and my tank temp always stays the same regardless, even after the lighting upgrades.

I don't have a tank anywhere near any vents, or near any windows or doors, so it's not getting hit with any drafts, regardless of warm or cold air. Maybe that's it?

I don't have a heater in mine. Like i said, last night it was 70 in the house and when i woke up, my tank was 80.5. Also, when I add the fans I was planning on them pumping in the air to cool the tank. Or should I use them to pull out the hot air?

Good question, I've never checked. But, I am 99% sure that they are reverse fans, meaning that they're used to suck the heat out of the tank.

To play it safe, I would also suggested posting that question in the Nano Forum (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=75)

Some people there may have a better idea.

I know the stock fans are for exhaust, but I'm adding 2 more fans to the rear lid over the 3 chambers in the back of the hood. Should i make these exhaust fans or intake fans?

what kind of thermometer are you using? It might not be very accurate.

Problem #1

Those therms are inconsistent.

What pump is driving your skimmer?

All those little pumps act like heaters. The maxi 1200 uses a lot of electricity which is adding some heat to your tank. Try going down to a 900 you can save 11. 5 watts right there. You get a whole 65 more gph but at a cost of more then double the juice used. also make sure all the intakes for you pumps are clean. Any little blockage will cause those pumps to get hot fast.
watts GPH
MP900 8.5 230
MP1200 20 295

never had a prob. with those digital testers they ara always reading the same as my ranco. as for the fans I would use them to puse cold air in. if you use them to push hot air out you will get alot of salt creep built up on them.
