View Full Version : what to use to "waterproof" a DIY Stand?

Hey all,

I am at the stage in my stand build where I need to put some type of protective coat on it. WOuld KIltz be good?

I did mine with Kilz primer and then a few coats of Marine white enamel. Over a yr later and it still looks like the day I did it ..

I used a few coats of spar urethane on one of my stands and I love it. It's like the wood is coated in smooth plastic. It even fills small gaps which paint hasn't done for me. And it hasn't chipped or flaked at all in a few years now. Most paints will probably do a good job waterproofing as well, I just really like the smooth plastic-like finish this gave me.
