Is the 5000 shorty andy good? I'm trying to find a fairly inexpensieve skimmer that works well. I want to spend about $200, and I really dont want to have to do any mods. Its going to go on my 125g thats got a low to medium bioload. My other option is to build a skimmer, but my wife doesnt want me to spend $150 buying parts, if I can spend $50 more, and get an engineered one. What skimmers should I look at?

i had a tf1000 and it was a nice skimmer but for the $$ .. you can get the nw-200 and unmoded will do better than the tf1000 imo.. ( not saying that the tf1000 sucks.. it's just that the reaction chamber of the nw-200 is way bigger)

as it stands... the octo imo are the best bang for the buck .. even unmoded...

I've had a tf1000 for years and should have replaced it years ago. I visited a LFS a few months back and they had a t5000 twin and farther down the system a large venturi driven RO skimmer that easily out preformed the t5000.

I am using a T1000 and it just about performs on my 50 gal. Get the Octo or look on here for something used.
