Can you use lace rock or reef rock. Then add some chunks of LR to seed the rest.

yes you can use live rock to seed "base rock", not sure on the lace rock though

Yes lace rock can become live with being seeded with live rock it just takes a bit of time.

Just make sure you take enough time to let it cycle. The cycle will take a bit longer if your seeding a lot of lace rock.

it will take about three months to cycle compared to 5 weeks with live rock. That's ok to do but you have to remember that the strengh in numbers of bacteria won't be as good as with live rock so you will have to wait longer to add a bigger bioload like fish.
