My small 5g with 2lbs LR, bristleworms and a snail got up to the mid-ninties when the cheap Top-Fin heater went bad. Have done a water change, got the temp back to normal, and put a Visi-Therm in. Assuming I lost the "Live" in my rock, can I re-seed it with water changes from my DT? Suggestions?

Your live rock should be fine. It shouldn't need to be reseeded.

You should try a ranco controller or something like it. Heaters will fail.

I agree, The best insurance you can buy your tank.

Without my Ranco controller my tank can fluctuate more than 5 degrees!

the key here too is not how much the temp was raised or how much it was lowered rather how fast.
Many times reefers panic when the temp has rose to the mid nineties or fallen to the high 60's and try and bring it back too quickly--that's what stresses out corals and inverts the most

Cap'n! Always nice to have you post. Seriously, everything visible (former) living thing was dead in that little tank. Fortunately, this was sort of a QT for my QT (the LR had been exposed to ich in my 12g QT, removed it and treated the 12g with copper). Now, I'm thinking of putting a nano-fish in the 5g for QT - am I hearing that the tank is back to where is was "pre-overheating" and should be ready to go if parameters are fine? BTW, I have a digital thermometer with alarm on the DT. I will look into a Ranco controller.
