I have had my 48" Outer Orbit HQI lights for about a year. I know that I need o replace the halide bulbs periodically. It comes with 10,000K lamps. Should I use 10,000K to replace, or can I upgrade to a 20,000K? I understand that the K rating is based on the "black anvil" theory, and describes the color or wavelength of the light. Is 20,000K an upgrade or just different? What is best for coral growth?

I wouldnt consider changing to 20k an upgrade. The 20k will give you more blue, less par and less growth. It will also bring out the colors of your corals. For more growth stick with 10k. If want a little more blue you can always go with a 14k and still get decent growth. I use the Giesemann 14.5k it has a high par and gives me good growth..
