Is it worth buying a phosban reactor or is it a waste of money and I should just use the sock that comes with the phosban?

I just don't know if I'm really going to get that much more efficiency out of my phosban in the reactor vs the sock to make it worth the cost.

I don't know of anyone who has run any kind of empirical test to prove one way or the other, but the reactor seems to work well and is a clean install...and its only about $30....

I think the reactor is much better since it uses all of the phosphate media to its full potential. Media bag don't move the media around like the reactor will.

I think they are a good investment. Mine has helped my tank for sure.

We just put one in and wow how easy to install. I hink the hardest part was taking it out of the box. I agree that the media is better used with the reactor.

I would do the reactor as well, seems to work much more efficient.

Buy the reactor just do not put a lot of flow over the media. Get a small amount of flow and it will do wonders for your tank.

what's everyone's preferred media for phosphate removal?

I've read good things about phosar media, but you will get a wide variety of opinion on this.

I have a GEO and It took care of my po4 in just a few days. They are great. If you use a reactor set your folw so that the water coming out of the return reads -0- on your test. That is how I was told anyway. (on new set ups) then you never need to change the flow. This is my flow on the GEO. Cant get it to post a pic? but if you click on my gallery you can see it. The line held up in my sump shows the return flow. This ended my algae trouble dead in its tracks and It has been gone every since. :)

Wonderful, thanks for all of the responses. My TLF phosban reactor should be here next Tuesday.

You've made the right move. Per Randy Holmes-Farley's article (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-11/rhf/index.php), the reactor helps keep the GFO from clumping together.

Is GFO (Iron Oxide Hydroxide) bad or harmful in the aquarium? I know Aluminum Oxide is harmful in a reef tank but does GFO also take out extra nutrients like carbon does?
