Im in the market for some newer bulbs, the ones that come with my Current brand fixture are a little yellow for my taste. I would like something more white but I don't want to lose alot of the brightness and I don't want something too blue as I have 4 actinics.

Im leaning toward 14k's, maybe Ushio's, as I've heard good things about them, but are they the brightest and whitest 14k?

Thanks

Mark

I've been looking for the same thing. I have a current outer orbit as well. I ordered the Aqualine AB bulbs. They are rated at 13k. I'll let you know how they turn out. I'll be putting them in tomorrow.

I would go with the AB 150w 10k. Great lamp quality and PAR.

hebygb. XM 15k are not great lamps. There are better choices out there. Look at the numbers on the lighting info pages.

The AB will look good when supplemented. An option I would consider is the Reeflux 150w 10k. It has a slight blue tint, but as a stand alone on an IC ballast it will appear very white.

The Aqualine 10000 (Aqualine Buschke) is whiter than the stock Current 10000K's. It's pretty much a white bulb with very good par for the 150 watt DE class. Looks great with the 4 T5's ... mix of actinics and blues. maybe a Aquablue special or two in place of an actinic and or blue T5.

Runfrumu, I use Pheonix 150w 14k on a Sunpod fixture and they look good. I like the tank color, coral color and growth.

I ran Ushio 10k 150w HQI on my old 75g with great results. VERY bright white. I supplemented it w/ blue plus and a super actinic t5 bulbs.

Lots of growth.

Personally I like the Iwasaki 50K (don't let the name fool you). It is not blue but white w/ a slight hint of actinic.

I ran Ushio 14K bulbs.......they were very very yellow. I doubt I'll use Ushio again.

Agree, the Iwasaki 50000 K is a nice bulb, my personal favorite. It does have a good amount of blue and it is rather unique as Gcarrol points out because it isnt a typical washed out blue. There is a good amount of actinic in the output and it is noticeable visually as well. My personal favorite looking bulb, period. The AB does have the par advantage though.
