I am battling ich and ammonia and soon nitrate (hopefully) and was wondering the effects of dosing sugar or vodka when the salinity is at .009.

Dosing sugar or vodka will drive bacterial growth in most any solution, but I've not seen it used to reduce ammonia, and I wouldn't recommend it that way unless you do a lot of careful studies first to show it works.

I wasn't thinking of it to reduce ammonia, but my .25 ppm ammonia will eventually turn to nitrate.

I would like to thank you as you saved my tank, my nitrates were 550ppm and within 2 weeks I reduced it to 20ppm.

I personally wouldn't worry about nitrate in a hypo hospital tank. Maybe limit it with water changes from time to time. :)
