That depends. Are you keeping corals? If not, you probably are not keeping track of your calcium and magnesium (hopefully you are watching your alkalinity). You say there is none on the glass, but is there some on the rocks? It will usually grow on anything plastic first (including acrylic). If you scrape it off it will spread. Besides, you probably clean your glass, so it can't take hold.

As long as your livestock is healthy then I don't think that a lack of coralline is bad. Let us know your parameters and we can help you out better.

my alk is perfect as well as ph, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and my salinity is good. I have about 40 lbs of live rock with coraline covered all over it and then another 50-60 that i bought from someone that has a little bit if any at all.

What are the actual readings? Perfect is relative.....

130watt on a 55 gal, seems a little weak to me.

I just noticed that your current tank shows as a reef. Does this mean you have coral? If so you should be testing for calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. Coralline likes the same levels of these parametes as do regular corals. If your calcium and magnesium are low, then this could attribute to the lack of coralline spread.

As for the lights, I don't think coralline really needs much light to grow, but it probably spreads faster with more intense lighting. Speaking of lighting, it is probably time to change the bulbs if they are 8 month old PCs.

What he said. If any of the three ( CA, ALK, Mg, ) levels are off, chances are you won't see any coralline.

the bulbs have been changed about a month ago and i have a lot of live rock so my "reef" or my begining of a reef tank has everything about no more than a foot from the light and everything is low light hardy stuff. I have higher lighting but running it w/o the corals that need the higher lighting is a waste of energy so once I have the money and start buying other corals i won't run the MH.

What would be helpful is to know what you do have in the tank. What is the everything that is no more than a foot from the light?
