Hello all,
Two of my ricordea are turning white. I place it almost directly under a 150HQI Metal halide. The tank is 21" high and the MH is 4 inches above water. It is turning white (bleaching) because of too much light? or you think there is other reason for it. don't know why But I always have hard time keeping Ricordea.

thanks,

Ricordea like lower light and lower flow. If you have them right under the MH, bleaching would likely be the culprit. Move them near the bottom or a more shaded area.

what kind of light were they under previously? Try moving them to the bottom of tank. Ricordea can definitely adapt to most lights. Mine are all about 28 inches under 3 400 watt halides and they are growing like mad.

They were under the same light and almost directly under the MH, same height too. I recently upgrade to a bigger tank with the same Height. now they are bleached, that's why I was confused

If your temps are within an acceptable range the light is probably the issue. I also had a hard time keeping rics for the longest time but recently found a spot in my tank they love. It's in the middle of the tank about 20" below 2 X150W MH (12k and 14k) with gentle current. Their color is great and they are growing and multiplying.
