Hi,

I just moved to Manhattan and after a few years out of the hobby, am thinking of starting a nano tank....ideally less than 15 gallons. I have been looking at the JBJ, Aquapod, Biocube and Clearforlife 12 gallon hex uniquarium. I intend on keeping nothing but soft corals, a shrimp or two and maybe a pair of clownfish. I want a closed lid, so metal halide lighting is out of the question (assuming). Also, would like to run a skimmer if possible...and was wondering which, if any, would work.

Thanks for any help!

Mike

Aquapod 12 Gallon HQI 70 Watt Halide. Search online to see if you could still get the discounted price which is ridiculous. This is a fantastic system especially if you want to expore LPS or SPS.

Well, I was looking for one without metal halide as I thought they all had open hoods. Is that correct? Where is a link to prices?

For the record, I'm happy with my biocube 8

On the Aquapod...it has a glass cover so nothing is actually open.

Thanks for the advice;) I guess what I meant to say is that I do not want stray light all over the place.....so thus a closed top.

Most of the smaller nano/biocube systems are fairly similar.

The JBJ 12 and 6 gallon are very cheap and have very simply filtration.

The Oceanic Biocube 14 and 8 has a better lighting setup(separate ballasts for each bulb and plug for the moonlight), and the option for a wet/dry filter(which I have always just used as a carbon/phosban filter) options.

The Aquapod is the best price, but the molded plastic doesn't seem to have a very good design and tends to break a lot.

For what you are looking for, I think a JBJ nanocube 12g DX would suit you perfectly. I just upgraded from one, was a great little tank :D
