View Full Version : New Yellow Tang, something wrong?

Well I bought a Yellow Tang today, floated for half hour, drip acclimated for 1 and half hour. He seems to be breathing heavily after I put him in the tank. Is he just scared or is something wrong? The other fish seem to be doing fine. Ammonia Nitrate Nitrites are all 0. Salinity is 1.026-1.027. Temp is 78.

how are measuring your salinity? Refractometer or hydrometer? Give him a couple of days keep the lights off for the 1st day.

Day Two:

He is still breathing constantly, seems to be active though.

What do you guys feed your yellow tangs/other tangs?
My LFS told me this "Formula Two Marine Pellet" is the best stuff, but it drops to the bottom of the tank like a rock and gets caught in my crushed coral bottom.

you hydrometer may not be accurate salinity may higher than you think!!! buy a refractometer and test

I added some water last night, salinity should be no higher than 1.026 now.

My inverts seem to be doing fine, if my inverts can live through it then the tang should be able to. Thats also the reason i drip acclimated him for a longer time.
