red sea berlin mods?

Ive been using this skimmer for a few weeks and sometimes it works great and sometimes not. right now its not. I want to mesh mod the pump but none of my local stores had any stuff for it.
it has the "updated" turbo pump on it. any ideas on how to make this thing better would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I used to have one a long time ago and I think it was a kent marine venturi that I bought and used a pressue rated pump on it.I used a external little giant pump(think it was a 3-mdq but don't remember).That thing got some seriously dark skimmate that was so thick I had to tape the collection cup lid down because it kept lifting it off.I think some people used a rio 2500 for an internal pump but I never tried it.
