Has anyone successfully built a diy probe port into the lid of your calcium reactor? (Successful meaning that the probe fits into it securely without it leaking)

1/2 JG fitting is all that is needed.

JG... never though of that!
A lot of people use 1/2" watertight (plastic) strain relievers for electric cords.

Buy one of these at Marine depot, 1/2 inch In-Line Probe Mounting Gland w/ Compression Fitting then Tap the lid of the Ca reactor.

I saw the one on Marine Depot, but if you look at it closely, it has steel/stainless finger grippers. I was concerned about the metal first, eating into my probe second. Tim, that's what both the 1/2" and 3/4" models look like. One of them is even made by Hubbell. Does Home Depot or Lowes carry the watertight cord relievers?

Lowes here has the galvanized kind with the rubber bushing. They did not have the plastic ones.

I use a 1/2" JG fitting with the stop at the bottom removed so the probe will slide in. You can get them at Home Depot. Works great and no leaks, plus it can be removed quickly without tools.

Which 1/2" JG fitting are you refering to? Is it just the straight male adaptor? I am also very interested in putting one in my reactor.
