I've bought a clownfish about 6 moths ago. It's been living just fine in my 29G tank. recently I bought another clown. Same specimen (African Clown) and a lot smaller (still in it's juvenile stage.) It's been in my qt tank for the last month or so, and I decided to move it over to my 29G tank.

I floated the a bag with the new clown in the tank for about 30Min. Both seemed interested in each other. curious.

Then I turned off the lights and released the new clown into the new tank.

Now here is my problem.

They swim together for a while, then looks at each other, start to swim in circles round each other. and lastly out of now where they chase each other. The new clown's fins have torn at some places and I dont know what to do.

I moved liverock around before I added the new clown, but this doesn't seem to help.

Is this normal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds normal... Clowns always go through a dominance phaze when they are pairing, the female will try to show the male who's boss by nipping at him a bit and chasing him around. If it gets pretty bad and doesn't stop, you might want to consider seperating them, but so far it sounds like normal behavior.

Thanks for the reply. I'll watch them for another few hours, and see what happens.

what kind of clowns are they?

& I agree with the prevous poster, unless the fighting gets really bad I'd leave them alone. If one has alot of tears in its fins I'd pull it out. Is one noticably smaller than the other?

There both African Clowns:

The ones about 1.3", and the other is about 0.8". They seem to be a bit more relaxed now. Seems that it stressed me out more than them.
