Folks,

I toying with the idea of adding ~1/2"- 1" of large grain sand and/or crushed coral substrate to an established 210G bare bottom sps dominated reef.

Does anyone know of any tricks to limit the amount of cloudiness aside from the obvious (i.e. turn the pumps off, clean the sand, etc...)?

What I'm really interested in is ways of placing the sand to cause the least amount of mess.

Thanks.

need two people and about $10 dollars.

Go to home depot plumbing section get a section of white pvc pipe pr flexible clear tube in the fittings section and a funnel assemble one holds the other pours. a little time consuming but you can direct the amount of clouding, pouring and where you want it to go.

I just replaced all my crushed coral or sugar fine. worked well 240 gall 2 inches took me about 6 hours to remove and replace best of luck

Dakota,

Thanks for the quick response.

I was thinking about trying that as well. When you did it, did you pour the substrate dry or was is wet/damp?

wet made it easier less cloudy only problem is had to run water through line every once in awhile
