Hi everyone. Take a look at the pics and give me your thoughts on what's happening to my orange cap. I'm concerned about the larger spot, but if you look closer, there are a couple of smaller white dots. Water params are as follows.

sg 1.026
temp 80.0
Alk 10.1dkh
mag 1400
ca 420

If you already inspected for monti nudis, then i would say that something got on it,a piece of salt creep or something.

Has it gotten worse?

Ive had mine do that, in a few spots. In my case it simply gew back or the spot colored back up.

I would inspect for nudibranchs on the bottom of it. That white patch is right next to that whorl and right where they would start crawling up from the bottom.

Might be something else though. I have had patches show up and go away, as someone else posted. I never could find an exact reason...

Didn't think about nudi's! Would I look for them after lights out or if I inspect the underside right now, would I see them? What do they look like anyway?

Thanks

They range from VERY SMALL to 1/4 of an inch IME.

They are most easily seen on the bottom of the coral at any time. If you can remove it and look, that is best.

Otherwise they will come out at night and will generally be on the effected area. In general they will be right on the edge where dead skeleton meets live tissue, top or bottom. On the bottom look right on the edges of discolored dead patches.

I had the same thing happen on an orange cap. Small white patches grew into large white patches. No pests were found, and it's possible that some salt creep could've fallen on this piece. One spot has completely grown back, and the other is in the process of doing so. I think they just get persnickity sometimes and do this. Nothing else in my parameters changed, but the piece survived.

I've had mine do this as well. It has always grown back.

Good news - no nudis, at least none that I could see. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks to all.
