Ammonia Spike

if you added something like too much live rock to an established tank. How long would it take for a ammonia spike to occur??? is this something that is instant?? or a few hours?? few days???

i seen a ammonia increase after adding 40 pounds cured in about 3 hours then the next day ammonia was gone and nitrite had elevated now its been a week and everything is back to normal so really i would say it is different for each,maybe you wont even see one at all

I added like 20lbs of live rock yesterday to my system. I didn't have any changes as of yet. Does that mean that it won' cause any ammonia at all???
