View Full Version : Salifert tests kits
Hi,
I was wondering when you are finding out whats the outcome of the test, when you "Hold the syringe with the tip facing upward and read the position of the upper end of the black syringe part."
Just to make sure, the upper end is the use to be "lower end of the black syringe part is at the 1.00 mL mark" just at a different angle?
Hope that make sense
thanks!

not sure i understand the question
you fill the syringe to 1 ml......ignore the air......drip until it changes to specified color, wherever the tip side of the black ends up is your reading. doesnt matter if its up or down at that point...its just easier to read with the tip up
did that help??
and if its dkh you are testing throw the kit away and buy a different brand
You know how it says the lower end and the upper end of the black syringe? It the upper end consider the black end closest to the tip of the syringe?
Sorry it's so confusing, thanks!
Why throw away dkh?

and there are several threads on the first page of this forum that go into why saliferts dkh cant be trusted. I have 3 different salifert dkh kits at my house...all read differently with a 4 point swing. I will give one of them the benefit of the doubt because i think i froze it in my garage.....but ill never use another salifert alk test again......

what about the color change? Instructions say add drops until the color changes to clear blue. Never really gets what I would call a clear blue, so should I be reading the syringe when the solution is any shade of blue?

You must be mixing up your kits. The alk kit turns from blue to orange/red when you reach the endpoint.
The calcium turns from pink to purple then pure blue. :)

Sorry, I see you did not mention what kit you are talking about, but I assume you mean calcium.
If you are not getting blue after exhausting the first syringe that means your calcium is over 500 ppm. Refill the syringe a second time and when the vial turns blue, add the 2 values together. 500 plus second result. :)
