Greetings. Can you give me an opinion of the minimum distance from the top of salt water tank to a 250 Watt HQI (10 K XM) MH pendant with an Ice-Cap Electronic ballast.

Thank You,

Tony

I think on wet web media they say around 10-12 inches, but probably ok as low as 6". I talked to a few manufacturers of pendant units before I ordered mine and they were saying around 6-8" was ok. How close they are to your water will play a role in how it affects your temps too I would think.

I keep my 250s about 12 inches off of the surface. The tank is 18 inches deep. I use a hanging kit and can adjust when necessary. No heat problems at that height.

IMO, as close as possible without losing spread, raising tank temps (causing a large swing when lights are on) or bleaching corals. ;)

If those things happen, raise them.

From personal experience, 7-8" for 250 DE's.
I have my 400 SE's set at 11".
