Hello, I need some help on deciding which return pump to use for my new tank. I have a Marineland 125G RR with two 1" drains. I was thinking about going with a Mag drive pump since they seem to be good pumps all arround. My question is should i go with two MD9s or one MD18 or even one MD24. Please give me your opinions and recomendations. I really want to plan this tank out and do things right. Thanks.

I would skip the Mags completely unless your goal is increased water temp from those pumps. Look into either Ocean Runner or Eheim. I would suggest only putting about 600 gph through the sump, there is little need to run a high flow through your sump.

I agree with Sirreal63. Slow flow thru the sump reduces noise and heat etc. On my 325gallon I only use a Eheim 1262 for return pump. In the tank I have 4 Tunze streams and closed loop.

Thanks for the advise, it makes sense that you dont want too much flow through the sump. I will look at the ocean runners and eheim pumps. Thanks.

I also use a smaller Eheim pump (1250). My tank is around 55 gallons with a 29 gallon sump. Another point is I dont have problems returning micro bubbles back to the tank with the slower flow.

Danner mag drives are loud, get an Eheim 1260.

I would go with a Oceanrunner 2500 or 3500 great cheap quiet pumps and are real energy effiecient

I run an Eheim 1260 for a return on my 40B. No problems with bubbles or heat. A lot depends on how you design your sump!
