Hi,

My new Octopus EXT-PS-120 just arrived. I've never had an external skimmer before. Can someone tell me if the height of the exit pipe will effect the water level inside the skimmer or performance?

What I mean is the return pipe that came with the skimmer will not make it over the edge of my sump. Can I just use PVC to make the tube higher or do I need to elevate the skimmer in my sump so the return pipe will be over the edge of the rim of the sump.

Thanks,
Ben

Someone please help? There were no instructions with the skimmer. It's an Octopus EXT PS 120.

Thanks,
Ben

The outlet height determines the running height in the skimmer.

I have the same skimmer,

What I had to do is raise the skimmer body where the return is above the sump or it will overflow, the water level in the skimmer should be about 2 1/2 in. below the cup, and then you adjust how dry or wet you want your skimmate, I have mine all the way opened, and it skims like a beast. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Yes, you will need to raise the skimmer up.

The height of the exhaust affects the level of water inside the skimmer body.

If you can fit it under the stand, build a small stand for it. Like this:
