snapperface,
I may be wrong but in passing emails I THINK he may not have had a constant internet connection. He may have been on a dial-up and myReef wont send an email if you don't already have the connection.

I can't get mine to send email or text. Uninstalled all virus software. They were stopping it at first but still no luck.

I've had similar difficulties with no success. I get no e-mail alerts from myReef, but when I send test e-mails they are received. Sorry I can't be more help.

Yeah no test emails or text to my phone. One thing at a time though. I'll get it. Trying to get my Network engineer buddy over. If I get anywhere
I'll be sure to post.

I am having trouble with this as well...
So using a gmail account I have
smtp.gmail.com
username@gmail.com
password
and at the top type the email address I want it sent too... Is there something else I need to know? Are there any ports other then 80 that need to be opened for this to work? I noticed my antivirus scanning when I hit test so I disabled that... still same thing...

What email addresses have any of you used... Does someone have gmail working? Is there another free pop3 provider someone has working I can try?

Ok I finally got the test emails working! Let me see if I can explain.... apparently it was a server issue(Verizon) I have since switched servers (now Mediacom) but was getting errors when sending to my Virgin Mobile phone. It would send the test just fine to my Gmail account so I made a new Gmail account strictly for myReef and set it to forward to my Virgin Mobile phone. Working fine now!
I hope my frustrating experience helps others having the same problem I was having.

I have verizon as well...
Lemmz I am hoping you can clarify something for me...
I was using smtp.gmail.com for the send server is that correct... and I have to use authentication too right...
I used gguertin@gmail.com for my logon and then my password... do you then send an email to your same account or setup another account to send the messages too.... If it were possible for you to tell me if there were any other services you had to start like smtp or something like that too that would be great... I am having a hard time getting mine to work with anything?

try this
email address - gguertin@gmail.com
send email server - outgoing.verizon.net
username - blank
password - blank
no authentication

still not working... brand new install no anti virus on the dmz host????
There is obviously something needed to make this run? Are there certain updates needed like java or something to let this application send the mail?

all critical windows updates are done
-also all .net versions installed
i setup a gmail account to use smtp through outlook... that worked but had to use SSL possible cause for people having trouble with gmail how do you add to use ssl?
windows firewall is off...
tested verizon option again still didnt work.
Any ideas?

It could also be issues with the internet provider. Cox, for example, has things set up that block certain types of email setups like this becuase they are worried about mass emailing. Something about how you have to set it up looks to them like a spam machine.

im going to try a complete new pc with xpsp2 and all windows updates later this week... if that doesnt work im saying it just doesnt work... why else is it so many people cant get this to work?
Is it that hard for a company to release the prerequisites and requirements to make their software work?
I dont know and got frusterated at the lack of help on the subject...
again my service provider is not blocking it because I was able to setup outlook on my gmail account through smtp and that works...

Success here!
I skipped using gmail all together and used my ISP's outgoing mail server (smtp).
I entered in my XXXX@tmomail.net (email address for my phone) for my email address, smtp.att.yahoo.com (outgoing 'SEnd' Email server') and now it send text messages to me! Pretty sweet!
I did enter in my Username and password and checked needs authentication as well.
gguertin, what ISP service are you using? I'd suggest not using gmail's outgoing email server.

im not sure if they have a service even I will have to look all that up. I will certainly try.. Not sure what the difference would be but sounds like its worth a try. Thanks for the info!

Yah, I'd bypass the gmail account. My huntch is that the ports are different and I believe that the myreef software uses the 'default' email host ports....
Just a thought.
