It's carbon with an additional resin. Works great on small tanks, in my experience.

I used to have a bag of Chemi-Pure & a bag of Purigen. I now use a product called Pura-Complete, its supposed to take the place of both others, its only 1 bag. I have a bag of Black Diamond carbon. The water is crystal clear, almost looks fake.

Purigen is in all my tanks - it is good stuff and reusable.

I like Chemi-pure as well. I used it in my last tank with good success. Anyone know anything about the "chemi-pure elite"? I believe its supposed to be more of a chemical filtration and phosphate remover in one. Curious if anyone thinks its worth the couple extra bucks?

I would not count on Chemipure binding any ammonia or nitrate from seawater, but like activated carbon and certain other polymer resin products, it wil bind organic materials from the water and reduce yellowing. :)

InLimbo87,

As I poster earlier. I switched to the Pura-Complete. It takes the place of both the Chemi-pure & the Purigen bags. Its only 1 bag. I think its great stuff. I also have a carbon bag in there. The water looks so good , almost looks fake. Chemi-Pure is good stuff, I like the fact that the Pura-Complete is in one bag.

My LFS told me if I dont like it he would throw it away & give me the Chemi-Pure.

1 warning about Pura-Complete.....When you rinse the bag, just to get rid of the dust. DO NOT scrub or rub the bag. The stuff inside looks like coffee. If you rub it, the water will come out looking like coffee water.

When I put it in the chamber of the BioCube. I squeezed & shuved it down in the chamber...........WELL...it oozed out & it turned the water a light coffee color. It cleared up, but freaked me out for a while.
