Take alook at bulkreefsupply.com. They have a 5 stage RODI for $140.00. I bought one and all the replacement filters and DI resin for under 200.00 including shipping.

I like my AWI Typhoon III. Great service and product.

I've also heard lots of people talking about the Spectrapure units as a great product.

I looked at the Filter Guys and the 75 gpd 5 stage Ro/Di(The one with the large DI unit not the one with small one on top of the membrane unit) is the same as the one from BlkReefSupply but the Filter Guy's is $20.00 more.

I vote for the typhoon. Airwaterice.com has amazing customer service and I like the how they aline their filters.

10 micron first
5 micron second
1 micron last then membrane

Most other ro/di sellers put 1-5 micron first and that makes the first filter clog and where out to fast.

They have been in the business for a long time and know their stuff.

Well BulkReefSupply uses a 5 micron 1st
5 micron 2nd
.6 micron 3rd
And is $50.00 bucks cheaper and they both use Dow filmtec membranes. And have some of the best customer service in the buis..

You know I don't know if I buy your theory of the 10 micron 1st vs a 5 micron 1st. If you have a 10 micron 1st you are still letting everything under 10 micron by the sediment filter and cloging up your 5 micron carbon block just as fast as clogging up a 5 micron 1st sediment filter. Plus I would rather have a .6 micron 3rd than a 1 micron 3rd as it reduces what the membrane has to due.

typhoon III (not the extreme - which is extreme overkill :) )

Spectrapure MaxCap. Nothing else even comes close. It uses a 0.2 or 0.5 micron prefilter and clogging is not an issue. It also uses a individually hand tested and guaranteed 98+% rejection rate RO membrane and custom hand blended DI resins, both of which are industry exclusives that lead to greatly extended filter life and superior water quality.

5. micron first & second in series??? Why? this way the first would clog while the second does very little work at all.

The idea of running sediment filters in series is for the first to trap the larger particals before the finer filters, to prolong the life of a finer filter. So if you have a major sediment problem, running 10>5>1 ... makes sence.

They are not absoult filters so...

I run 1.0 micron > 0.2 micron absolute then carbon block chlorine gluzzler

i would recomend the 0.2 prefilter if you want to maxamize life of your RO http://www.spectrapure.com/St_replac_p1.htm

So using a 5 micron sediment filter prolongs the life of the carbon so it doesn't have to filter out the particles between 9 and 5 microns so if you replace the sediment filter only it is much cheaper in the long run.

sorry, i thought you where just talking about sediment filters.

I run a $4.00 1.0 micron sediment to prolong the life of my $25 0.2 sediment filter for the same reason
